OUR HISTORY OF SUCCESS
Creating A Bright Future
In 1988, through the leadership and dedication of a small group of pediatricians, the first CHIP program was developed in the Roanoke Valley to address health issues stemming from the negative impact of life in poverty on children. The unique home visitation model was soon expanded to address key social concerns, promote family self-sufficiency and ensure that all children were prepared for school through the use of a holistic team approach that address the needs of both the parent and the child.
This effective, data -driven program was replicated throughout Virginia in the 1990’s, including individual sites in Chesapeake, Norfolk, and Portsmouth. Today, the consolidated CHIP of South Hampton Roads is the largest home visiting program in the area. CHIP’s services help parents focus on the first 2,000 days of a child's life which lay the foundation for a child’s heath, academic and workplace success. CHIP of South Hampton Road’s dedicated staff of certified Parent Educators and Registered Nurses help hundreds of families overcome the obstacles of poverty to create a brighter future for their children.
