Home Visiting
Parenting is the most rewarding, and the most difficult, job that anyone will ever have. The challenge is even greater for families living in poverty. CHIP home visiting takes a whole-family approach to ensure that every child has the opportunity to reach their full potential. CHIP’s registered nurses and parent educators partner with the families to promote child & parent health, school-readiness, and family self-sufficiency.
A donation of $120 will afford one family a comprehensive wellness visit by a registered nurse. Be a part of the solution.
Sleep Tight
Unsafe sleep is the number one cause of infant mortality for children 1 week to 1 year of age. CHIP’s Sleeptight program provides education and pack-n-play cribs through a network of regional partners including hospitals, child protective services, and other nonprofits, to combat preventable deaths due to unsafe sleep. Together, we can ensure that every baby in Hampton Roads sleeps safely.
A donation of $70 will secure a crib for a child in need. Be a part of the solution.
Moms Matter
Maternal mortality rates have skyrocketed in the U.S. to a 55-year high. Black women are 3-4 times more likely to die during the post-partum period than their white counterparts. In partnership with Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, Moms Matter was created to address this critical issue. Our nurses provide supervision, education, and support to prenatal and postpartum patients with hypertension and diabetes. This program individualizes services to meet the needs of each new mother to provide a seamless continuum of care from hospital to home. This successful program is also in partnership with Sentara Obici Hospital, and is expanding through partnerships with other providers throughout the region.
A donation of $600 will provide one mother a dedicated nurse ensuring a healthy start for her and her children. Be a part of the solution.
Parent Cafe
Parents thrive when they have a caring community to lean on. Parent Cafés offer parents and caregivers a supportive space to connect, share experiences, and learn from one another. Guided by the five protective factors: resilience, social connections, emotional development, parenting skills, and concrete support in times of need, Parent Cafés empower participants to reflect, grow, and build stronger families together. With funding from the United Way of South Hampton Roads, CHIP has created a network of like-minded partners to bring Parent Cafes to communities across the region.
A donation of $500 will end loneliness and isolation by sponsoring one Parent Cafe serving up to 25 parents and their children. Be a part of the solution.
Sankofa Family Center
A community thrives when all voices are recognized and uplifted. Serving as South Norfolk’s community hub, the Sankofa Family Center provides a safe space for individuals to access resources and support while promoting community engagement, connecting with their heritage, and fostering a sense of belonging. “Sankofa” is a Ghanaian word that loosely translates to “go back and get it,” the meaning being, to remember one’s past while working towards a better future.
A donation of $250 will help provide immediate, tangible support to low-income families in emergency situations. Be a part of the solution.
